MODERN ARCHITECTURE: ECHOES + REFLECTIONS
This catalogue accompanies Modern Architecture: Echoes + Reflections, an exhibition dedicated to the enduring legacy of the New Khmer Architecture movement and its lasting influence, both retrospectively and today. Culminating over a decade of research by the Vann Molyvann Project and New Khmer - Architecture (NK-A), the exhibition invites audiences to engage with Cambodia’s architectural history through a contemporary lens by:
Presenting research-based insights into eight lesser-known yet culturally significant projects by nine pioneering architects, including Vann Molyvann, Lu Ban Hap, and Ros Borath, and more.
Offering a rare glimpse into archival materials, such as architectural drawings, photographs, and concept designs, for both built and unbuilt projects like the Vann Molyvann and Lu Ban Hap Private Residences, the White Building, the Grey Building, the Archaeology Museum, and Battambang University, and more.
Highlighting the broad influence of this movement and Cambodia's post-independence identity through a curated selection of archival publications, stamps, and films. Limited-edition artworks by contemporary artists offer fresh perspectives on New Khmer Architecture's legacy.
Fostering reflection and constructive dialogue by providing resources for architects, artists, educators, and the public to explore the continuing relevance of New Khmer Architecture.
