Sala is an experiment in decolonising and feminist learning, designed and hosted by Tara Tran, a Senior Research Fellow with the Center for Khmer Studies. The community roundtable features exercise, lecture, and discussion, over food and drink. The objective is to explore the difficult histories of Cambodia, and its ties to Southeast Asia and the world, intersected with histories of empire and colonialism, race, gender, and class.
The first gathering, titled "Mapping Krong with Filles and Grids," will examine how urban planning in the growing city of Phnom Penh was designed to preserve sex work and social order from the 1880s to the 1930s. Guests will explore how maps ordered—and continue to order—our everyday lives in the city.
Registration is closed.
