In our aspiration to contribute to the creative industries in Cambodia, Team Raintree is thrilled to launch another special edition of Design Dialogue @ Raintree, where we present leading voices in our community to share their experience and industry knowledge. In this edition, co-hosted by HKA & Partners, we invite Sereypagna Pen, the director of The Vann Molyvann Project, to discuss the philosophy of Vann Molyvann’s work in relation to culture and climate.

Sereypagna Pen is the director of New Khmer-Architecture and the Vann Molyvann Project, an international team of architects and architectural students working to document the work of Vann Molyvann. Pagna has practiced design in various companies, such as Phnom Penh’s Archetype, New York’s Steven Harris Architects and Honolulu’s SHADE Group. His researches on Phnom Penh’s urban form and Cambodian modernist architecture have been the subject of several exhibitions and presentations in Cambodia, Taiwan, Australia, the United States, and selected venues in Southeast Asia. He is also the co-author of Genealogy of Bassac (UR Terreform, 2021), which received the 2019 Graham publication award. He is currently a PhD candidate in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Hong Kong.

The Vann Molyvann Project aims to:

• Fill the gap in historical record by surveying Vann Molyvann’s remaining buildings, generating a database of measured drawings.

• Raise the profile of Vann Molyvann’s work and New Khmer Architecture through exhibition and publication.

• Foster collaboration between young Cambodian and foreign architects, students, and researchers, connecting them to these extraordinary works of Cambodia’s modern heritage, providing basic materials for architectural education and research in Cambodia and the world.

This event features a presentation before wrapping up with a Q&A session where participants may ask any burning questions. By invitation only.
